Questions to answer for YA Lit Unit

After reading your novels, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the following questions. Create a new post for each answer. To receive credit for your answers, include the title and author of the novel, and type your first name only. You may create up to 4 posts for extra credit:
  • What was the author's purpose for writing this novel? What are the author’s possible social motives for telling this story? To illustrate a point? Dramatize a problem? Impress an audience? Something else? How are these motives illustrated through character’ thoughts, conversations, and other behaviors?
  • How is my understanding of this text shaped by my own social attitudes, values, and experiences? By others’ reactions?
  • How do I feel about these characters? Close or distant? How do they feel about each other and about themselves? Did my relationships with certain characters change in the course of the story? Why?
  • What is my overall reaction to this text as I read? Do I feel detached? Spellbound? Skeptical? Trusting? Fulfilled? What are the sources of this reaction?
